SLRA Homeschooling Primer

What is SLRA Homeschooling?

This is also referred to as home-based learning. It is an alternative delivery mode of learning where the Tutor, who can be the parent or a hired Teacher, will carry out the teaching-learning process at home, instead of the traditional and formal school setting and with the guidance and supervision of SLRA.

How does SLRA carry out Homeschooling?

An Appointed Teacher (AT) who can be a Guardian, Parent or a hired Teacher, will be given learning materials and modules/worksheets to guide through the process. More…

The Parent will also be given schedule of topics to be discussed and progress monitoring materials. We will also help him/her develop the capacity to teach, especially on difficult topics/subjects, through Zoom or Skype meeting. SLRA will send a monthly standardized test to the Parent and he/she will send it back the results to us for progress monitoring.

In Homeschooling program, who will be the teacher of the child?

Any parent or both is the primary teacher(s) of the child.  Should any parent is not available, they can appoint or hire somebody to act as teacher, monitor or supervisor of the child’s learning provided that they are qualified.

Will there be a uniform Teacher-made test to be given?

Yes, SLRA will make a Monthly test that Parents can pickup from the school or be downloaded and printed from home.

Will my child, who is enrolled in SLRA homeschool program be given an Academic Report Card for her academic performance?

Yes. Like any student/pupil enrolled in private or public school, we will give you an Academic/Report Card (Form 138) for his/her academic performance.

Can we possibly go back to traditional school?

Yes.

What are the advantages/benefits of homeschooling?

Flexible Schedule

Homeschooling enables a flexible schedule. Unlike in a traditional face-to-face learning that you need to be on time, around 7:15AM, in school for the assembly or flag ceremony. In homeschooling, the child does not need to wake up early. You may start at 9AM depending on your preferred schedule and as you see fit.

Individual attention

In homeschooling, your child gets individualized learning and attention she needs. If your child is weak in a certain subject, you can extend time for that subject, while a remedial class is necessary in traditional setting.

Family Activity

Homeschooling activities can become a family bonding as well at the comfort of wherever you want those activities to take place, like a park or in your garden. There is more time for family bonding. The child is also free of any negative peer pressure or influences from outside.

No peer pressure

With homeschooling, the child does not need to prove his/her abilities to other children. Parents are able to deeply understand their child better with homeschooling and therefore are able to plan the learning program according to his strengths and weakness.

Time and Money Saving

Affordable tuition fees. You save time & money because there’s no need for school bus/service, gas for sending and fetching your child, daily baon, uniforms, brand new school shoes, going to the principal office in case of disciplinary action, joining the traffic to and from school and the like.
